Insurance, Risk Assessments & Qualifications

ARE THE INSTRUCTORS/LEADERS QUALIFIED?

Yes our instructors and leaders are qualified in the relevant sport. For example, for hill walking we use qualified Lowland Leader Award (LLA) and Mountain Leader (ML) award holders. For rock climbing we use Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) and Rock Climbing Instructor (RCI) award holders. These awards are issued by Mountain Training Board Ireland which is a  training sub-committee of our National Governing Body (NGB) Mountaineering Ireland. Mountaineering Ireland is the representative body for walkers and climbers in Ireland. See more details on training and awards from Mountaineering Ireland at the link below.

Mountaineering Ireland

We also support the development of trainee instructors in the above awards and often will have trainee instructors logging hours, assisting and gaining experience with our qualified staff.

ARE THE INSTRUCTORS/LEADERS TRAINED IN FIRST AID?

Yes all our instructors or leaders are first aid trained to the standard of either; Rescue Emergency Care (REC) 3, Wilderness First Aid 3 or an equivalent first aid certificate or higher. This first aid training is designed for the relevant environment and the associated risks found inherently in hillwalking and rock climbing activities and other outdoors sports that have a remote and/or wilderness element to them.

ARE YOU THE BUSINESS INSURED FOR THESE ACTIVITIES?

Yes. Our insurance is obtained through the Mountain Training Association (MTA) and allows us to operate under the remit of the awards we hold (CWI, RCI, ML) including some additional activities. We are insured for the following activities; indoor climbing, outdoor single pitch rock climbing, hillwalking, team building activity, use of low ropes courses, work on artificial structures, bush craft (except foraging) and film/media work. We have Public and Product Liability to €5,000,000 and Professional Indemnity to €5,000,000. We have Employers liability to €13,000,000. We are insured to operate within the United Kingdom and Ireland.

ARE YOUR ACTIVITIES RISK ASSESSED?

Yes, all our activities are risk assessed and reviewed every 6 months.

Environment, Transportation & Parking

DO YOU OPERATE A LEAVE NO TRACE (LNT) POLICY?

Yes. We believe in, use, and recommend the Leave No Trace (LNT) ethos. Everything we pack in on a hike, gets taken out. This includes for example tea bags, banana peels, apple cores and any litter. We try to remove litter that we find during our hikes. More information on LNT can be found at the link below.

Some parking areas have a fee. Although we try select safe areas to park, we are not responsible for your car or its contents. Leave nothing valuable in your car.

This depends on the location. For the indoor climbing courses at Awesome Walls Dublin or Dublin Climbing Centre it is possible to use public bus.
